Anchor Scripture: Matthew 15:21–28

The Power of a Praying Woman

From the beginning, God charged humanity to be fruitful and multiply—a divine assignment that women play a central role in fulfilling. But beyond the physical act of childbirth, there is a spiritual call: mothers must rise in the place of prayer.

Prayer is not a religious routine; it is a divine mystery. God does not answer a closed mouth. Prayer is the gateway to heaven’s power and the compass for God’s agenda. It is how we build spiritual stamina and raise a standard against the enemy.

The Canaanite Woman: A Case Study in Persistence

Using Matthew 15:21–28, we go through the compelling story of the Canaanite woman. Her story offers a blueprint for persistent and effective prayer.

1. Her Demand (Verses 21–22)

The woman approached Jesus with a desperate need—healing for her daughter. Like many of us, she faced moments of silence from God. We pray, we serve, and sometimes heaven seems quiet. But this woman teaches us that silence does not mean denial.

2. Her Test of Patience (Verse 23)

Despite being ignored, she didn’t walk away. She didn’t argue. She remained. Her tears spoke when words failed. This patience is the posture we must assume when heaven delays.

3. Her Consistency (Verse 24)

Jesus’ response could have been interpreted as rejection. Yet, she persisted. Her humility became her strength. Sometimes what we perceive as divine rejection is really an invitation to deeper intimacy.

4. Her Persistency (Verse 26)

Even when met with what seemed like an insult, she did not retreat. Many would have taken offense and walked away from God, the church, or the place of prayer. But she chose to press in rather than pull away.

5. Her Desperation and Determination (Verse 27)

She likened herself to a dog under the table, content with even the crumbs of grace. Her humility and tenacity broke barriers and pulled the miraculous into her reality.

6. Her Victory Through Relentless Effort (Verse 28)

Her persistence birthed a landmark victory. Jesus commended her faith and granted her request. Pastor Olutunda reminded us that “a victory can’t be won without a battle.” And many battles are won in the secret place—where praying mothers wage war on their knees.

A Call to Remain

The message was clear: Refuse to leave God’s presence. Whether answers come quickly or slowly, we must keep showing up in the place of prayer. God is looking for persistence. Mothers, families, and entire generations depend on it.

Prayer Declarations

As the service concluded, the congregation lifted heartfelt declarations:

  • Powers assigned to make my power powerless—Father, intervene today!

  • My prayers will not fall to the ground.

  • Every power that says prayer won’t solve my problem—I silence you; you are not my God.

  • Lord, don’t let me fail You while waiting in prayer.

  • Give me the grace to remain patient before You.

  • I decree—my answers will not hang in the spiritual realm. I receive immediate answers!
