Scripture: Deuteronomy 28:1
"If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth"
Pride is not acknowledging things that God has done for us. Everything we are called to do in the kingdom is a privilege from God. No one is indispensible.
Elijah in his hubris thought he was the only one to refuse to bow to Baal, yet, the LORD humbled him by informing him of the 7000 out there who wouldn't bow also. Just as Elijah was humbled by the revelation of the remnant faithful to God, so too must we guard against the pride that blinds us to our need for Him. Let us not be too busy for the things of God, but instead, let us humble ourselves before Him, recognizing that every privilege in the kingdom is a gift from Him.
We must not be too busy for the things of God.
Brethren, let's be sensitive before the LORD. Proverbs 16:18. Pride goes before destruction. We MUST be ready to surrender all in total absolution to the LORD. He's fully committed to give us the best so why can't we as a people reciprocate? Quick question: Like Rehoboam, are we going to do the same? To deal treacherously with the LORD?
The LORD demands that we obey the law of the LORD. Another question we should ask -especially when He's blessed us with plenty- "are my actions causing others to stumble?" "are my passions causing others to sin?" . Are we full of excuses? "Oh I can't come to church because of work? Or I'm too tired to attend." Excuses are stumbling blocks. And many times, not just for us, but for those who watch us unbeknownst to us.
Proverbs 16:18 Brethren, we must be careful. Ask yourself "Is my heart right with God?" Such introspective questions will help us unearth the truth of our standing in Him.
HOW DO YOU PREPARE YOUR HEART TO SEEK GOD
1 Chronicles 12:5-6
1. Realize that you have sinned. Avoid excuses and put down your self-defense and pride. Own up! Take responsibility and do not deflect it to another person/thing.
2. Humble yourself before your Maker. Acknowledge that without Him you are nothing! 2 Chronicles 12:7-8
3. He will deliver us from the hands of our enemies.
4. Sometimes the consequences of our sins aren't totally removed by God. We are forgiven, but these consequences set in motion may be allowed to play out for our learning.
Be careful, brethren. Our speech, our skills, our spirituality and other achievements can fill us up with pride. We MUST be weary lest the become a snare.
May we be encouraged and abide in the LORD in Jesus name.
Have a blessed week in Jesus name.
Prayers:
1. The LORD does not want us to wait in vain. May we not carry any burdens over to the new month.
2. In all areas of our lives, may we not deviate from the leading of the LORD.
3. Oh Lord please give me the heart of a servant (meekness).
4. Father don't let me struggle in context in Jesus' mighty name.
5. Deuteronomy 28:10. After you've blessed me, may I remember to bless You oh LORD.
